First Appointment

What to Expect

Taking the first step takes courage. Here's exactly what the process looks like — no surprises, no pressure.

The Process

Four Simple Steps

1

Free Phone Consultation

Start with a complimentary phone call. This is simply a conversation to understand what brings you in and to see if we might be a good fit. No pressure, no commitment.

2

Scheduling Your First Session

If we both feel it's the right match, we'll schedule your first full session. Sessions are conducted via Zoom, making it easy to connect from wherever you are.

3

Your First Full Session

Your initial session is 60 minutes of genuine conversation — not a checklist or an interrogation. We'll explore what brings you in, your history, and what you hope to achieve. This is real talk therapy.

4

Ongoing Care

Together, we'll determine the right frequency for your sessions. Most patients meet weekly, but the schedule is tailored to your needs and life. The goal is lasting change, not dependency.

FAQ

Common Questions

What should I expect at my first appointment? +
Your first session is an extended consultation (50-60 minutes) where we explore what brings you in, your history, and what you hope to achieve. There's no pressure — it's a conversation to determine if we're the right fit.
How should I prepare for my first session? +
There's nothing you need to do to prepare. Come as you are. Some patients find it helpful to jot down a few thoughts about what's been on their mind, but it's not required. The most important thing is to show up — the conversation will flow naturally from there.
Are sessions conducted in-person or via telehealth? +
All sessions are conducted via Zoom telehealth. This allows you to connect from the comfort and privacy of your own space, whether you're in Greenwich, Fairfield County, or elsewhere in Connecticut. Many patients find telehealth sessions equally — or even more — effective than in-person visits.
Do you accept insurance? +
Dr. Tamerin operates as an out-of-network provider. We can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Many PPO plans offer partial out-of-network coverage for psychiatric services.
Is everything I share kept confidential? +
Absolutely. Everything discussed in our sessions is protected by doctor-patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations. Dr. Tamerin has worked with executives, public figures, and professionals for decades — discretion and privacy are foundational to his practice.
What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me? +
That's exactly what the free consultation call is for. It's a no-pressure conversation where you can share what's going on and ask any questions. There's no obligation. Many of Dr. Tamerin's longest-standing patients started with exactly that uncertainty.
